30th Annual Bland Reunion - - July 10 - 13, 2014
Reunion Chair: Linda Verbeck Ludecke & Linda Bland
Site Host: Barbara Bland & Richard Lee Bland
Location: Williamsburg, VA
This years focus: Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Jordan's Point, Virginia, are locations where the James River Blands lived from 1607 through the 1800's. Three tours are planned on Thursday, one day-long bus tour on Friday, and one tour on Saturday. On Saturday afternoon, R. Taft Kiser, a Virginia archaeologist, will give a talk on archaeology at the Jordan's Point Plantation during the 1980's.
Both Richmond and Norfolk airports have 'full-size' jets and are equidistant to the hotel. But, Richmond airfares are cheaper than Norfolk and it's faster driving to/from the hotel because going to/from Norfolk requires travel through the busiest tunnel in the region and is often at a standstill for 1+ hours. The Richmond airport is newly reconstructed and sits on I-64 on the east side of the city and closer to Wmsburg. We're planning a volunteer shuttle service to/from the Richmond airport. The Norfolk airport is on the wrong side of the bay tunnels, which are usually at a standstill for 1+ hours during warm months.
